The main section of this land that Heritage is built on was originally purchased from the Lucas family. It was a rarity in the Panhandle of Florida as it was a perfect 640 acre section of land and had been that way since it was homesteaded. Although no great plantation style mansion was ever built on the property, it was used as a hunting plantation. An old hunting lodge that was not able to be restored, once sat at the top of Lake Heritage. Many longtime local old timer residents in the community say they have hunted on Heritage Plantation in the last 50 years. Other property was acquired contiguous to the Lucas tract that now totals the more than the 1,000 acres of Heritage Plantation.
